Description

Discussions of cross-cultural interactions and representations in all visual media from the eighteenth to the twenty-first century. The course mainly, though not exclusively, explores European imaginings of encounters with non-European people and places. The focuses are on travel, migration and creativity, and the uses, meanings and values of both colonial-period and post-colonial and contemporary art and photography in different socio-cultural contexts. To complete this course students must enrol in ARTHIST 703 A and B.
