Beginning Modern Chinese 2

Please note: this is archived course information from 2018 for CHINESE 101.

Description

This course is the continuation of CHINESE 100. It continues to provide basic written and spoken skills in modern standard Chinese (Mandarin, Putonghua, Guoyu, Hanyu) for true beginners. This course trains students in all four skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. It aims to provide Chinese learners with a solid foundation in grammar, vocabulary and conversational skills. This course continues to use the two textbooks from CHINESE 100 and covers Chapter 9-15. By the end of the course, students are expected to know about 700 vocabulary items; to communicate orally in Chinese on daily life; to have a solid foundation on the grammatical constructions for more advanced study; and to write about 400 characters.
