Europe and the World

Description
An introduction to the study of European culture, with attention to Europe’s global influence and different ideas of Europe. The course content is organised around historical periods major themes: linguistic and ethnic groupings; religious and intellectual traditions; the scientific and industrial revolutions, urbanisation and the creation of mass entertainment; socialpolitical developments from the French Revolution to totalitarianism; conflict and integration in Europe – the twentieth-century World Wars and their aftermath. The cross-disciplinary nature of this wide-ranging foundation course is underscored and enriched by contributions of specialist guest lecturers from different disciplines in the Faculty of Arts.
