Hollywood and its Others


Description

An investigation of Hollywood with a particular focus on its aesthetic, cultural and industrial aspects. Students will gain a historical understanding of classical Hollywood cinema, which will serve as the basis for comparison to other national cinemas and American independent productions of recent decades.The course will focus on concepts such as film genre, the operations of the gaze, representations of race and gender and intersections between film form and ideology. Through tutorials and assignments, students will be given the opportunity to develop their skills in close analysis, research and oral presentation.
