Action Film


Description

The course explores the formal qualities of action films and their interaction with historical, cultural, economic and media contexts. Focusing on action cinema of the last two decades, the course examines issues of visual style, narrative and the representation of gender, race and nation. Films studied range from the more recent Avatar (2009) to the classic Die Hard (1988) and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (2000).
