LANGTCHG 715
Developing Academic Literacy
Please note: this is archived course information from 2012 for LANGTCHG 715.
Description
Aims to help participants understand and develop their academic literacies by exploring and analysing the technical, discourse and social practice components of academic texts: book and journal reviews, library- and research based essays and research reports (dissertations and theses). The course makes extensive reference to findings from genre and corpus-based analyses. Assignment tasks require students to write short examples of academic genres and genre components (eg, summary, data commentary, presentation of research findings). Students are encouraged to explore their own areas of disciplinary interest.
