Semantics and Pragmatics

Description
Topic-based exploration of problems of meaning, intention and signification, with emphasis on the interactions between semantics, pragmatics and grammar. Topics include: propositional and predicate logics; event and genre structure; aspect, tense, mood and modality; case and roles; topicalisation, transitivity and information packaging; implicatures, intentionality and uptake; contrasts between spoken and written discourse; contrasts between English and other languages.
