PHIL 728

Political Philosophy 1

Please note: this is archived course information from 2012 for PHIL 728.

Description

In this course we will study some recent books on global justice topics. We will probably start with two books dominating the field: Thomas Pogge’s, World Poverty and Human Rights (Cambridge: Polity, 2008) and Alison Jaggar (ed.) Thomas Pogge and his Critics (Cambridge: Polity, 2010). These works introduce us to some important current debates such as those concerning (i) whether, and if so, how the global order harms the global poor, and (ii) how to distribute responsibilities for remedying identified defects.
