Mana Māori Motuhake / Māori Politics and Public Policy

Description

An introduction to Māori politics and public policy. Students are introduced to the relationship of He Whakaputanga o te Rangatiratanga o Niu Tīreni /Declaration of Independence and Te Tiriti o Waitangi/ the Treaty of Waitangi to the Crown.  Does this relationship have an influence on public policy? Topics include the politicisation of identity, sovereignty and self-determination, representation, globalisation and the Māori economy, Māori development and Māori media. Some contemporary and comparative indigenous policy issues will be discussed.
