SOCIOL 214

Sociology of Gender

Please note: this is archived course information from 2017 for SOCIOL 214.

Description

An introduction to the sociology of gender and the examination of topics of concern to sociologists. Drawing on local and international literature, the course examines changes and continuities in gender relations and gendered identities since the emergence of second wave feminism in the 1970s. As part of the course we consider a variety of ways of thinking about gender or sexuality and consider a number of social sites (eg, violence, reproduction, same-sex relations and sexualisation) in which the question of gender and/or sexuality remain vexed.
