Special Topic: Anthropology of Tourism and Travel


Description

Examines global tourism and its effects on contemporary culture: the tourist experience, tourist industry, heritage management and the way tourism re-shapes places and spaces. Anthropological approaches are used to analyse tourism as a socio-cultural practice and category of experience. The relation of tourism to nationalism, cultural commodification and colonialism: case studies from Africa, Europe and the Pacific.
