Origins of Modern Sculpture


Description

This course explores the transition from traditional to contemporary forms and themes in European and American sculpture. The focus is on artistic activity in Paris from 1900 to 1914 with consideration of definitions of sculpture, abstraction, processes, materials, influences and innovation. Major artists and topics include Picasso, Brancusi, Moore, Constructivism, Futurism, Paris as an art centre and sculpture and gender. This course is taught concurrently with ARTHIST 222
