CHINESE 101

Beginning Modern Chinese 2

Please note: this is archived course information from 2017 for CHINESE 101.

Description

This course is the continuation of CHINESE 100. It continues to provide Chinese learners with a solid foundation in grammar, vocabulary and conversational skills in modern standard Chinese (Mandarin, Pûtōnghuà, Guóyû, Hànyû, Húayû). This course covers Chapters 11-17 of the two textbooks. By the end of the course, students are expected to recognise and write approximately 400 Chinese characters, to converse in basic language and to acquire the grammatical constructions for more advanced study.

Language Ability Declaration

Students who study Chinese for the first time at the University of Auckland must complete a Language Ability Declaration and may be called for an interview and a placement test. Failure to complete the Language Ability Declaration will result in deletion of the enrolment.
