Intermediate Modern Chinese 1

Description

This course expands on the solid foundation in modern standard Chinese (Mandarin, Pûtōnghuà, Guóyû, Hànyû, Húayû) grammar, vocabulary and conversational skills learned in CHINESE 100 and 101. It systematically develops skills necessary to communicate in a world of educated native speakers. This course completes the final five chapters of the two textbooks used in Stage 1 before moving on to the first two chapters of the new textbook. By the end of the course students are expected to have learnt approximately 500 new vocabulary items and advanced sentence patterns to be able to read and discuss a variety of topics about contemporary Chinese society of interest to native speakers.
