World Literatures 2: Machines and Modernities
Description
Course Overview
Examines changing cultures and different conceptions of modernity from the Industrial Revolution to the contemporary global era as reflected in a variety of texts, films and media. Analyses and compares texts from different genres, languages, and cultural traditions. Some of the topics to be studied include avant-garde movements, surrealist poetry and cinema, feminism, postcolonial narratives of European/indigenous contacts, post-Industrialism, new media, among others. Texts are all in English, with attention to the original languages.
