Description

The course explores key aspects of the production and arts management infrastructure that underpins contemporary performing arts practice.

It provides the opportunity for postgraduate students in Drama and, potentially, other programmes to learn the structures and skills crucial to administering performing arts organisations and to producing events in the contemporary live performing arts, including in non-traditional/non-Western formats and venues.

These skills are essential for careers in performing arts in the contemporary environment, and will equip students better to understand and to seek employment in that environment.

Topics include:

  • Venues and venue programming
  • Contracting and intellectual property
  • Funding processes and agencies
  • Technical administration
  • Specialist theatre services
  • Technical rehearsal processes
  • Scheduling and budgeting
  • Marketing and publicity

Classes will be practically oriented and will include guided tours of selected venues, panel discussions with industry professionals, site visits and attendance at professional theatre company production meetings.

The course will be coordinated by Phil Evans, Director of Jumpboard Productions.
