ENGLISH 107
Fundamental Questions: Desire
Please note: this is archived course information from 2012 for ENGLISH 107.
Description
A fascination with the idea of desire is at the forefront of recent critical thought. What is desire? How does it shape our understanding of gender, of relationships, of representation itself? How might the idea of desire have currency in our texts and how might we explore it in familiar genres? Has the way we think about the idea of desire changed between the 20th and 21st centuries? Thinking about desire will provide the unifying device for the course and for the texts we explore. The course uses reference to music, video and film, including Bladerunner and I, Robot.
