ENGLISH 343

Writing Poetry

Please note: this is archived course information from 2017 for ENGLISH 343.

Description

Writing Poetry and Other Experiments recognises our world of blended language works: philosophical arguments come as dialogues and metaphors, doctoral degrees are awarded for graphic novels blending critical and creative work, and poetry books include movie quotes, maps and blueprints. Students will write in multiple forms including procedural, translingual, trans-genre and performance poetry. We’ll investigate web sites and journals and talk about differences between composition and revision strategies. We will discuss representation, images, rhythms, diction, lines, syntax, sounds, rhymes, code mixing, page area, digitality, typography, punctuation, appropriation, rearrangement and more.

For enrolment/wait-list issues, please visit or contact the Arts Students’ Centre.

Class limits information for 2017: Enrolment is limited to 30 students. Students must waitlist in the course by 2 December 2016 for 2017 entry. In the event of spaces remaining after the December selection, a further opportunity may be opened in March 2017. Selection is based on GPA and transcript evaluation.
