Writing the Self: Autobiography from Montaigne to Duras

Description

An investigation of the nature of autobiography from writers who constitute the French tradition (Rousseau, Gide, and so on) to the "new autobiographies" of the 1980s and 1990s in France. The focus of the course will be on the contemporary period.
