Description
This course provides an introduction to the study of various media, including television, print media, the internet, video games and cinema. It explores issues of media production (including economics and media regulation), media texts (including how ideas, meanings and values circulate through the media), media technologies (including the impact of digitisation) and media reception (including how audiences use and make sense of the media). Advertising, sport, music and news are studied as examples of contemporary cross-media cultures. The course highlights both local and global aspects of media culture in Aotearoa New Zealand. Students are introduced to key concepts, methods of analysis and writing skills in Media Studies.
