Film and Video Production

Description
This course is a practical production class in which students get the opportunity to develop, shoot and edit a short documentary. In a small seminar setting, students work in groups to learn video production technique. There is a strong emphasis upon identifying good film topics, acquiring basic skills and being able to work collaboratively. In addition to covering how to work small DV cameras, students learn how to edit on non-linear digital workstations. However, this course is not strictly vocational in its orientation. Students are required to read theoretical and technical literature, seminars include screenings and students are encouraged to explore the boundaries of documentary form.
NB: enrolment is limited to 16 students, with selection criteria as follows: 1) GPA in FTVMS courses; 2) quality of proposal for documentary film project; 3) portfolio demonstrating creative potential; 4) personal statement of intent.
