Sexuality and Media

Description

A historically framed investigation of the representational conventions that visualise sex acts across a range of media and public spaces, including photography, cinema, television, the internet, the classroom, the museum. The course examines such issues as pornography and censorship, the history of sexual discourses, the representation of sexual subcultures, the eroticisation of the gaze and the ethics of looking, the visual iconography of sex education, the presentation of erotic materials in sex museums and the challenges of doing sex-related research.
