HISTORY 223

Settler Societies

Description

Explores the formation, development and cultural construction of European settler societies and their interactions with non-European peoples. It attempts transnational understandings of issues in economic, social, cultural and ethnic history, and examines the relationships of settler societies with empire, post-colonialism and globalisation. Anglophone societies are emphasised, but Spanish, Portuguese, French, Dutch and Russian settler societies are also considered.
