Description
This course is a continuation of JAPANESE 231 providing more advanced grammar. By the end of the course, you will have acquired all essential grammar items and will be ready to explore more authentic materials in Stage 3. As with JAPANESE 231, this course is designed to further develop communicative use of the language in the four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing in various situations as well as strategies to enhance and support these skills.
The prescribed textbook can be obtained from the University Bookshop. You must attend the plenary lecture plus streamed classes.
Objectives
By the end of the course, you should have improved your ability to:
- Communicate in various situations using learned expressions and grammatical patterns with a level of speech (plain, polite and honorific forms) appropriate for the situation
- Express your opinions about given topics
- Read and understand passages written in various topics and styles using learned expressions and grammatical patterns
- Write thank-you letters and short essays about your experiences, using learned kana and kanji in an appropriate style
- Translate short passages from Japanese into English and vice versa accurately
