Description
Students analyse the structure of an unfamiliar language, focusing on syntax/morphosyntax. The language studied in LINGUIST 705 and 706 may be the same in any given academic year.
Course outcomes
A student who successfully completes this course will have the opportunity to:
- Learn how to elicit relevant data in an unfamiliar language to probe into different syntactic properties of the language, e.g., word-order, verb-movement, case, questions, negation, tense and aspect
- Acquire skills in linguistic/syntactic argumentation by analysing the elicited patterns from the language
