Sexuality and Media

Description
A theoretically framed investigation of the representational conventions and transgressions of visualising sex and sexuality across a range of public media spaces, including photography, cinema, television, magazines, the internet and apps.
The course examines issues relating to sexual concealment and revelation, the eroticisation of the gaze and the ethics of looking, pornography and censorship, the history of sexual discourses, the representation of sexual subcultures, the presentation of erotic materials in domestic media such as television and the mediatisation of the intimate sexual sphere.
