Special Topic: Comparative perspectives on ethno-political violence
A study of theories of group violence and an examination of a number of historic and current cases of ‘deadly ethnic riots’, communal and separatist conflict and genocide. This course will assess how and why states experience sudden destructive conflict, and why some find their way out of this turmoil while others become trapped in a cycle of violence and poverty.
