Rights: History, Theory and Practice


Description

Explores both descriptive and normative theories of rights and their application to contemporary politics. Topics may include concepts of rights, sovereignty, property, the universalism of human rights and feminist, indigenous and Marxist critiques. 

NB: enrolment is limited to 25 students, with selection criteria as follows: 1) admission to a postgraduate programme in Political Studies; 2) admission to the MProfStuds in International Relations and Human Rights; 3) results in previous tertiary study in relevant subjects.
