Critical Theories of Schooling

Description
Compulsory schooling in western society has traditionally been seen as a significant instrument of socialisation, progression and economic advancement for young people. The proposed course will engage students in ideas which challenge this view by drawing on critical theories such as Labelling, Marxist, Foucauldian and Anarchist theory and exploring topics including colonialism, patriarchy, racism and the social control of youth.
