Digital Translation

Description
This course will equip you with highly specialised theoretical and practical skills in audiovisual translation (AVT) and localisation and develop specialised skills and knowledge needed to translate software, websites and audiovisual content. You will learn the distinctive characteristics of digital texts and develop the skills needed to address the specific characteristics of digital source texts and develop a critical understanding of localisation tools and tools to facilitate subtitling.
You will
- Develop specialised skills and knowledge needed to translate digital text such as software, websites and audiovisual content
- Learn distinctive characteristics of digital text as the source text, and specific translation modes and processes involved, including accessibility modes. These may include subtitles for the deaf and hard-of-hearing and audio description for vision-impaired users.
- Become familiar with localisation tools and tools to facilitate subtitling
- Learn to apply different theoretical principles, methods and strategies in researching and practicing AVT and localisation, ranging from historical to sociopolitical as well as sociocultural points of view
The course will integrate the theoretical discussions and the practical hands-on sessions in the lab.
