TRANSLAT 703

Issues in Translation

Please note: this is archived course information from 2012 for TRANSLAT 703.

Description

This second translation theory course discusses the place of translation studies and that of the translator in a globalised world. Continuing the discussion of major translation theories that we started in the first semester (TRANSLAT 702),students will be introduced to a number of new approaches, including the notion of equivalence, polysystems theory, descriptive translation studies (especially translation and norms), post-colonial translation studies and localisation. These modern paradigms will be embedded in a larger discussion of the impact that globalisation has had on the role and image of translators.
