Description

This course introduces students to a wide range of computer skills for professional translators, covering a number of translation-related IT topics from file management to information research and management. Participants will learn how to set up an efficient professional IT environment and how to use software solutions to improve both the quality and the productivity of their work. Special emphasis will be placed on terminology management. In addition, this course will provide students with an overview of and hands-on experience in the use of three market-leading translation memory systems, namely Across, Déjà Vu and SDL Trados.

Overall, this course aims at introducing participants to modern electronic translation environments, and providing practical advice on how translation memory systems can best be integrated into the translation process. Working with different translation memory systems will provide students with useful insight to assess such systems and the way they affect the translation process.
